SIGHT IN DAYS

Rifle, Archery and Crossbow

The UPPER HUMBER ROD and GUN ASSOCIATION will hold this activity at our club range at 177 Goose Arm Road in Deer Lake  again in early September but due to an ever increasing range activity will allow an extra 3 days this week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings.

We are pleased to present the dates as posted below for the scheduled days prior to the hunting season. New dates for early September will be posted at a later time. The club will be assisting hunters to sight in their firearms prior to the up-coming hunting season. This will help with your marksmanship skills ensuring proper shot placement and hopefully a more successful hunting season with no losses or wounded animals escaping. This will also alert you of any firearms or equipment issues giving you time to correct any identified troubles prior to the hunting season. Good Luck ! We hope all your hunting activities are safe and successful.

Archery and Crossbow targets can and will be made available for target arrows only. We have 3 targets available that can be set up on a different range. Please call Wendell ahead of time if this is of interest to you.

MAINTENANCE and SIGHT IN DAYS

Posted by smith.wendell1@gmail.com on August 11, 2022 at 11:55 AM

Good Day Everyone,

Please find a slight update from last week

This coming week will be a maintenance and upgrade week for us.
From 7AM Monday August 15 to Friday August 19 at 5pm we will be doing maintenance on all our ranges, grounds and buildings. We will have equipment down range ditching and doing repairs with rock removal, banking of slopes, etc.
The ranges will be shut down during any equipment operating times and with our students on the property which will most likely be in line with that of the operator.
We will have students on site each day starting at 8 Am until about 4.30PM. They will assist with painting of our building and other tasks associated with their employment with us until the allowable hours are reached.
We have been in discussions with the Town of Deer Lake with whom we share a Summer Student Employment program. This is an annual thing with us and the Town which allows our students employment opportunities before heading of to University and other Post Secondary Institutions. We Welcome our students again this week.
---------------------

Our Steel Challenge team will have an event starting at 6 PM on Monday August 15. This will not be affected by our activity.
Our Trap team will have a trap shooting event on Thursday starting at 6.30 PM. This will not be affected by our activity.
Anyone interested in those sport shooting activities are encouraged to connect with us to have your name forwarded to the team of interest for event notices pertaining to the activity. Everyone is welcome !
---------------------

We will begin our SIGHT IN DAYS which will be open to our membership and the general public hunting community on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday evenings starting at 5 PM. That time has been determined by our equipment operator who will be concluding daily operations from 7 AM until 5PM.

Take Note that our schedule for Monday August 22 and Tuesday August 23 will be determined by our operator should he require this additional time. Stay tuned for an update later this week

We will proceed with our SIGHT IN activity on each scheduled day this week as daylight hours allow for AUGUST 16, 17, 19.
August 22 and 23 to be determined later this week

Our sight in Days activity will not be operating on Thursday in order to accommodate our regular trap shooting activity commencing at 6:30 PM.
Sight in Days for Friday will start at 5PM.

Depending on our equipment operator, Sight in Days will continue on Monday August 22 from 12 noon until 5PM before the Steel Challenge Event gets under way.
The Steel Challenge event will start setting up at 5PM and start the event at 6PM
We will conclude with our Sight in Days on Tuesday August 23 with an afternoon to evening schedule starting at 1PM.
Other times may be made available should the need arise or upon request.
-----------------------
We do not wish to have the entire range operating time tied up,Our Sight in Days, however, is an important service to our membership and the general public hunting community. It gives our guests an opportunity to check out their firearms equipment and marksmanship abilities in a safe environment prior to hunting activities and allows them a chance to address any issue with firearms, ammunition or other equipment in time to corrected any problems before the hunting season.

Watch for updates to our schedule for next week.
---------------------------------------------------

Maintenance on our buildings will include but may not be limited to;
Caulking around windows, doors, seams, prior to painting
Nailing in any loose siding boards.
Replace damaged or rotted boards around the east side door.
Replace damaged or rotted boards elsewhere
Repair Doors and replace hinges on the main door to the building.
Painting of the main building will be done by our students. Of course they will be assisting in                              other tasks as well should that be completed in a timely manner. We may need to assist them in higher than reachable areas where safety concerns for them would not permit.
Grounds work. Picnic tables and benches repaired and painted if required.
                        Shooting platforms to be assembled
Steps to the trap house to be replaced
Trap gun racks to be painted/ stained
Other tasks as time and people allow

Please contact us to let us know your available time for SIGHT IN DAYS so we can schedule you in.
Please Let us know when you are available to assist us with maintenance during this downtime. Even if you do not get a chance to contact us, grab any tools that you feel you may be needing and come along to join in the activities in making our facilities a more eye pleasing, enjoyable and safe place to come for a day of range activity and enjoyment.  You can contact us here through this email, or by the numbers provided below.

BBQ STEAK DINNER & DANCE EVENING

Posted by smith.wendell1@gmail.com on July 27, 2022 at 8:25 AM

Good Morning Fellow Members and Guests

We are happy to announce that we will be having a BBQ STEAK Dinner and Dance at our facilities on Goose Arm Road in Deer Lake on August 06.

Since Covid hit us, this is our first opportunity to offer an invitation to join us for a fundraiser and an evening of great food and entertainment. It has been noted that many of our regular attendants and supporters to our suppers have moved away or are now with limited abilities due to our aging population.

We also realize that this is a COME HOME YEAR and many of you have family coming from away and have commitments at this very time.

We also reached out to other music providers and found them unavailable at this time.

We are reaching out to you, our membership and friends to support us with our efforts to provide you with a FUN and ENJOYMENT evening while helping us raise funds to promote our activities, to enhance our facilities and services, for all of you and our guests to benefit and enjoy during your visits with us.
Bar services will be available. Tickets are 60.00 Double.

If this evening is of interest to you and your friends, then we ask that you get back to us as soon as possible so that we can place our steak order tomorrow for the event.

Please share with your Family and friends and to our members who may not be on our membership contact list yet.

Thanks Everyone and Have a Great Day

Steel Challenge Events at the UHRGA

Posted by smith.wendell1@gmail.com on July 13, 2022 at 9:55 AM

Good day everyone,

I am happy to announce that we will be bringing Steel Challenge to the Upper Humber Rod and Gun Association!  This could not have happened without some great support and help from our board and some others who have helped with equipment and range material!

We are planning to hold our first shoot this coming Monday, July 18, 2022 and hoping to start at 6:30pm with a short briefing followed by a fun evening of shooting.  Cost to participate in this will be $5 for UHRGA members and $15 for non members.

This a fun sport and is very inclusive and accessible for more shooters compared to other sports such as IPSC, although after getting your feet wet in action shooting with our Steel Challenge shoots, I have a feeling that many of you will be interested in other disciplines such as IPSC as well!  Is can be shot with 22lr so this can be a very cost effective way to have some fun as well!

All that is needed is a rifle or handgun chambered in 22lr or any normal pistol calibers (No magnums please).  It is also recommended that you have 5 magazines or speed loaders as this will help with the smooth flow of event.  If you don’t have 5, please don’t let that discourage you.  We can try to find a way to work around it or allow you to still participated in a bit of a limited capacity.

Holster use is not required and there is no prerequisite to have Black Badge certification for this sport, although anyone who chooses to use a holster must have Black Badge certification for safety reasons.

Although this sport does have official rules, we must reserve the right to make minor allowances or changes to these in the interest of allowing everyone to participate safely in this event.  There are also set stages contained in the rules, however we are treating these as fun shoots and will ba able to make changes to some of these stages for our purposes.

This event will have a safety area for casing and uncasing of firearms.  I would ask that when everyone arrives, they keep their firearms cased until we are able to brief the use of these areas and the safe handling and movement of firearms on an active range.

I would encourage anyone who is interested in this or would like to know more to come on out and join us on Monday evening!  Eye and ear protection is mandatory for all participants and observers.  Spectators are always welcome!  For those interested in shooting, please see the link below for the official rules.  There are also many videos and websites that will give you a good idea for what to expect.  Keep in mind that although some will show high levels of competitiveness, the main goal here is for everyone to have fun!

https://scsa.org/rules

Sorry for bring so long winded here, but finally I would like to express that I am looking forward to kicking this off here at the club and can’t wait to see some familiar faces and meet some new ones along the way!!!

If anyone has any questions in the meantime, please feel free to reach out to me on Facebook or at brakec@yahoo.com

Take care and looking forward to seeing you all at the range!
