NATIONAL RANGE DAY Re-Scheduled to JULY 01, 2023

Posted by smith.wendell1@gmail.com on June 1, 2023 at 8:35 AM

Good Day everyone,

Regretfully, due to inclement weather conditions this weekend, we have to cancel our planned event for our National Range Day Celebrations.

We have re-scheduled to have an event on Saturday July 01 with a shortened time at the range so everyone could relax a bit on Canada Day and also give everyone time to be home for the BBQ supper with their family and friends.

So from 9.30 AM to 2.30 PM on JULY 01 will be our OPEN HOUSE RANGE DAY.

Thanks for understanding and we wish everyone can come along and join us for some fun at our facilities.

Have a Great and SAFE weekend everyone!

THE UPPER HUMBER ROD and GUN ASSOCIATION

is celebrating

National Range Day!

We will be hosting an Open House to celebrate National Range Day!

Open to members, guests, the general public, family and friends.

We will be organizing shooting activities from  9:30 AM to 2:30 PM July 01, 2023.

No experience is necessary.

A day where anyone wishing to do so can participate in safe shooting activity under the direct supervision of experienced and responsible persons and Range Safety Officers.

Some demonstrations of IPSC and Steel Challenge activities may be possible throughout the day.

Trap shooting activity will be available.

For those wishing to bring along your personal archery equipment, we do have some targets available.

Those who are more familiar with firearms are welcome to come out and may be able to try other shooting activities besides the ones they are accustomed to.

For those who are not members of a Registered NL Rod and Gun and do not carry CLUB Membership and Insurance Cards, you must get a permit to transport your Non-Restricted Firearm to and from our facilities from the Authorities. Unlike other jurisdictions, Your PAL does not give you permission to transport within NL outside hunting seasons where your hunting license gives you that ability.

Permits are available from the Dept Of Fisheries, Forestry, and AgricultureResources.

If bringing more than one firearm, they all must be listed on your permit. For those with Restricted firearms your conditions as per your RPAL apply.

Children are welcome but may not be able to participate in all events and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

The General Public is welcome to ask questions to learn more about our shooting community and the different sporting disciplines.

Everyone is welcome to come out and join in the many activities we have prepared for you!

Safety glasses and ear protection will be provided for all shooting, but please, we encourage you to bring your own if you can.

Food and beverage will be available. There will be a small fee for food and to cover off on ammo expenses.

STEEL CHALLENGE EVENT UHRGA MAY 24

Posted by smith.wendell1@gmail.com on May 23, 2023 at 4:20 PM
Time to kick off our Steel Challenge shoots for the season!!

We will be holding our first shoot this Wednesday, May 24 2023. Everyone is welcome to come participate and try out this sport. Black Badge certification is not required for this sport although, we will only permit those who have taken Black Badge or orther simimlar approved safety training to use holsters. This is for the safety of the shooter and others in attendance.

Fee is $5 for members and $15 for non members. Acceptable equipment would be any pistol or rifle chambered in 22LR or any normal pistol caliber (no magnums please), so there are still ways to enjoy exciting action sports without an RPAL or Black Badge! It is preferable to have five magazines as that will provide a smoother and more efficient to series of strings while at the line. If you don't have five magazines, we still encourage you to come join us and we will assist in whatever way we can to ensure that you can participate and have a great time!

Planning to start at 6:00pm. Please arrive early if you plan on shooting and to help set up to get started on time so we can take advantage of all remaining daylight. Spectators are always welcome. Eye and ear protection is mandatory for all shooters and spectators.

We will have a designated safety area for the purpose of uncasing and casing firearms. If you have any questions, please check in with me prior to uncasing your firearm.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

MEETING WEDNESDAY FEB 15 at 7:30 PM

Posted by smith.wendell1@gmail.com on February 14, 2023 at 8:40 AM

Good Day Fellow Members,

We are having a meeting at our facilities on Goose Arm Road in Deer Lake, Wednesday Feb.15  at 7.30pm.

We have a Special Guest. Carol Anstey, for the Long Range Mountains will be joining us. We are delighted she can be with us and Welcome her to our Association. Carol has a long history and family connection to our club.

We wish to establish the possibility of having a Big Bull Competition and BBQ Steak Dinner and Dance and our Annual Dart Tournament as we were prior to the pandemic affecting our lives.
In order to make that possible we need to have volunteers from our membership to put a team together to form that strong committee to undertake the necessary tasks of running these events. For the Big Game Competition, We will need people to set up the event, to register guests, set up a lunch plan, and kitchen duties. As well as volunteers to visit our valued business community and sponsors as required in order to successfully do such an event.

Since Covid some of our team players are not available to assist us.
Your support helps make a strong team !
By bringing together the joint efforts of those committee members, and sharing the tasks, means each of us will spend less personal time fulfilling those objectives.

Volunteers are very important to the success of our club, our activities and our programs. Should you have interest in helping us out and you have some time to assist us leading up to and during the events, please make us aware of your interest.

We have been very successful with good numbers of volunteers and we hope this continues. The volunteer base has helped us to deliver very strong, positive and successful events.

Without dedicated and treasured persons as yourself who come forward giving of your time and sharing your skills, our events and programs that we have delivered in the past would not have been possible. Your valued time with us is greatly appreciated by the club and throughout all the community we serve.

Even if you are unable to make the meeting but have an interest, Please let us know

Finalize a date for both these events.

2.    The Roger Saunder Memorial Dart Tournament

Set up a committee and finalize a date for the event.

3. Talk briefly about our Annual General Meeting and election of officers which we have discussed for a tentative date of Feb. 24th.  More to follow on our AGM after this meeting.

We are pleased to present the dates as posted below for the scheduled days prior to the hunting season.

This will help with your marksmanship skills ensuring proper shot placement and hopefully a more successful hunting season with no losses or wounded animals escaping. This will also alert you of any firearms or equipment issues giving you time to correct any identified troubles prior to the hunting season.

Good Luck !

We hope all your hunting activities are safe and successful.

TRAP MEMO / FALL SCHEDULE

Posted by smith.wendell1@gmail.com on August 31, 2022 at 8:15 AM

Fellow Trap Shooters,

The current weather prediction is for a better evening on Wednesday (sunny) over Thursday evening (rain). So, for this week trap will be rescheduled to Wednesday, August 31, 2022.  To accommodate all shooters and take advantage of existing light, trap will start at 5:30pm.  While this may not be a good start time for some shooters it will allow us to process early arrivals, who may be finished shooting by the time later arrivals show up.  In any case, we hope to be able to continue shooting until the light dwindles.

Even if you arrive later you will be able to complete your shooting, so please consider attending.

Please note that trap is switched to Sunday afternoons, starting with the first Sunday after the Labour Day weekend.  This start date was chosen as some shooters compete in the Atlantic Competition offered each year during the long Labour Day weekend.  Details and confirmation on moving to Sunday will follow within the next week or so.

If you are interested in a trap shoot for this Sunday, please let us know well in advance and we will try to arrange it.

Regards,

Ed
