STEEL CHALLENGE EVENTs at the UHRGA

Posted by smith.wendell1@gmail.com on August 7, 2022 at 12:30 AM

Steel Challenge

shoot will be held this coming Monday August 8th. Everyone is welcome to come participate and try out this sport. Fee is $5 for members and $15 for non members. Acceptable equipment would be any pistol or rifle chambered in 22LR or any normal pistol caliber (no magnums please).  It is preferable to have five magazines as that will provide a smoother and more efficient to series of strings while at the line.

Planning to start at 6:00pm. Please arrive early if you plan on shooting and to help set up to get started on time so we can take advantage of all remaining daylight. Spectators are always welcome. Eye and ear protection is mandatory for all shooters and spectators.

Also, for those who shoot IPSC or are interested in the sport. Our dates for August and September are changed, we will be having a Match on Saturday August 20, and a practice day on Sunday August 21. For September, our practice day will be a single day on Sunday September 11.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there.

BBQ STEAK DINNER & DANCE EVENING

Posted by smith.wendell1@gmail.com on July 27, 2022 at 8:25 AM

Good Morning Fellow Members and Guests

We are happy to announce that we will be having a BBQ STEAK Dinner and Dance at our facilities on Goose Arm Road in Deer Lake on August 06.

Since Covid hit us, this is our first opportunity to offer an invitation to join us for a fundraiser and an evening of great food and entertainment. It has been noted that many of our regular attendants and supporters to our suppers have moved away or are now with limited abilities due to our aging population.

We also realize that this is a COME HOME YEAR and many of you have family coming from away and have commitments at this very time.

We also reached out to other music providers and found them unavailable at this time.

We are reaching out to you, our membership and friends to support us with our efforts to provide you with a FUN and ENJOYMENT evening while helping us raise funds to promote our activities, to enhance our facilities and services, for all of you and our guests to benefit and enjoy during your visits with us.
Bar services will be available. Tickets are 60.00 Double.

If this evening is of interest to you and your friends, then we ask that you get back to us as soon as possible so that we can place our steak order tomorrow for the event.

Please share with your Family and friends and to our members who may not be on our membership contact list yet.

Thanks Everyone and Have a Great Day

Steel Challenge Events at the UHRGA

Posted by smith.wendell1@gmail.com on July 13, 2022 at 9:55 AM

Good day everyone,

I am happy to announce that we will be bringing Steel Challenge to the Upper Humber Rod and Gun Association!  This could not have happened without some great support and help from our board and some others who have helped with equipment and range material!

We are planning to hold our first shoot this coming Monday, July 18, 2022 and hoping to start at 6:30pm with a short briefing followed by a fun evening of shooting.  Cost to participate in this will be $5 for UHRGA members and $15 for non members.

This a fun sport and is very inclusive and accessible for more shooters compared to other sports such as IPSC, although after getting your feet wet in action shooting with our Steel Challenge shoots, I have a feeling that many of you will be interested in other disciplines such as IPSC as well!  Is can be shot with 22lr so this can be a very cost effective way to have some fun as well!

All that is needed is a rifle or handgun chambered in 22lr or any normal pistol calibers (No magnums please).  It is also recommended that you have 5 magazines or speed loaders as this will help with the smooth flow of event.  If you don’t have 5, please don’t let that discourage you.  We can try to find a way to work around it or allow you to still participated in a bit of a limited capacity.

Holster use is not required and there is no prerequisite to have Black Badge certification for this sport, although anyone who chooses to use a holster must have Black Badge certification for safety reasons.

Although this sport does have official rules, we must reserve the right to make minor allowances or changes to these in the interest of allowing everyone to participate safely in this event.  There are also set stages contained in the rules, however we are treating these as fun shoots and will ba able to make changes to some of these stages for our purposes.

This event will have a safety area for casing and uncasing of firearms.  I would ask that when everyone arrives, they keep their firearms cased until we are able to brief the use of these areas and the safe handling and movement of firearms on an active range.

I would encourage anyone who is interested in this or would like to know more to come on out and join us on Monday evening!  Eye and ear protection is mandatory for all participants and observers.  Spectators are always welcome!  For those interested in shooting, please see the link below for the official rules.  There are also many videos and websites that will give you a good idea for what to expect.  Keep in mind that although some will show high levels of competitiveness, the main goal here is for everyone to have fun!

https://scsa.org/rules

Sorry for bring so long winded here, but finally I would like to express that I am looking forward to kicking this off here at the club and can’t wait to see some familiar faces and meet some new ones along the way!!!

If anyone has any questions in the meantime, please feel free to reach out to me on Facebook or at brakec@yahoo.com

Take care and looking forward to seeing you all at the range!

YOUTH SKILLS EVENT JULY 30, 2022

Posted by smith.wendell1@gmail.com on July 8, 2022 at 9:20 AM

The Wildlife Division of the Department of Fisheries, Forestry, and Agriculture - will be partnering with us again this summer for a full-day youth event on

SATURDAY, JULY 30 / 2022 at the Upper Humber Rod and Gun Association at 177 Goose Arm Road in Deer Lake. Details are being finalized. Please stay tuned.

We will have limited seating capacity for our youth which will depend on our number of available confirmed volunteers for this event.

Any one wishing to volunteer with us during this event are asked to contact me asap so that we can establish our required numbers. 709 686 5228 or respond to this email.

We are hoping that we have "Many Volunteers" who will be assisting us with our event. It does us all good to be able to come together for a common cause of promoting the great outdoor activities for our youth. With safety being the priority concern for everyone involved with any shooting or outdoor activity, practices for safe hunting and the shooting sports for our youth are given the utmost attention. Strict rules which have been applied in the past are relaxed with regards to Covid Safety as well. Hand sanitizers, and wipes are available and masks may be worn at the discretion of the individual persons.

The event will provide an opportunity for our youth aged 12-17 to participate in shotgun, rifle, and archery in a safe environment under the direct supervision and guidance of qualified instructors and volunteers.

There will be a nominal registration fee of $10.00 per youth to participate in this event. The fee will be collected upon registration the morning of the event.

All firearms, archery and other equipment along with related safety gear will be provided for the day by the Wildlife Division. No other equipment will be permitted.

Participants will learn about wildlife, outdoor safety, wilderness survival skills, and responsible hunting practices. Our Deer Lake SAR team members will be giving a discussion on outdoor wilderness safety and responsibilities.

There will be opportunities for youth to win prizes, and those participants between 12 to 17 years old will have their name entered in our Province's Youth Hunting and Fishing Program draw for a chance to participate in a hunting or fishing activity.

During lunch time, a competition to identify animals, ducks and other game birds, the judging of distances to animal and bird silhouettes, and other interesting material will be held. As part of the competition, Youth will be given some instruction on using compasses. There will also be a session on taking or reading compass bearings and giving distances between markers which will be a part of the competition.

Participants are required to pre-register for the event. Registration will take place on a first-come, first-served basis until all our spaces are filled.

After that we will take names for stand by positions should someone not be able to attend and seating becomes available.

All youth in attendance must be accompanied by a parent and / or guardian for the entire day.

The Youth will be divided into 4 groups with each group rotating through all of the programs in a timely manner.

The event will go ahead, rain or shine so dress according to weather conditions. Bring along rain gear and remember also to bring along sunblock and a hat. We are all aware of our ever changing Newfoundland weather conditions.

Thank you for your interest in our partnered program for the Youth of Newfoundland and Labrador. By developing those necessary skills we are instilling upon these youth a heartfelt interest in our outdoor sports through hunting, fishing, and conservation minded activities. The many skills and lessons learned by our youth on this day will be an introduction for many to a lifetime of safely enjoying the great outdoors and wilderness activities which we all share.

In attendance for the day will be Archery Instructors. Members of the Deer Lake Search and Rescue team will be doing outdoor wilderness awareness and survival training. Media members will be invited. Members of the Wildlife Division and others from the Dept. of Fisheries, Forestry, and Agriculture will be in attendance as well as members from Delta Waterfowl and Firearms Instructors and our Volunteers. We could also have invited distinguished guests.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED / PLEASE ADVISE if you can assist during the day.

Volunteers are very important to the success of our activities and programs. Should you have some time to assist us during this event, please make us aware of your interest... In the past we have had good numbers of volunteers. This has helped us to a very successful process with smooth transitioning throughout the entire program. Without dedicated and treasured persons as yourself who come forward giving of your time and sharing your skills, programs such as this would not be possible. Your dedication and time with us is greatly appreciated by everyone !

2022 UHRGA MEMBERSHIP

Posted by smith.wendell1@gmail.com on December 14, 2021 at 3:30 AM

Welcome to our website.

This year our applications for membership will not be mailed out as per past years. We are in a era of new and modern digital communications. The Upper Humber Rod and Gun Association has decided to take advantage of these technologies. We are hopeful they will help with processing applications and will surely reduce our associated mailing costs and time with processing. This type of processing is now the normal way for most clubs and group memberships.

2022 Membership applications can now be found online on our website under Membership. They are available for Renewal, New Memberships, Youth, and Students of post secondary education.

www.upperhumberrodandgun.com

We have made our applications much user friendly with the removal of the Jpeg white washed image of our crest and replaced it with a small crest. This will eliminate the issue of unusable applications which were apparent with some browsers and computer systems. Printing the applications will now be much clearer.

Funds can be electronically transferred to our email address at

uhrgassoc@gmail.com

Please be sure to make a notation of who the funds are for, especially if the funds are coming from someone else on your behalf.

For those wishing to do so, applications, cheques, or money orders can still be sent via regular mail to our address as noted on the application. Applications and copies of your PAL can be photo copied, scanned or jpeg pictures taken and forwarded to our email address uhrgassoc@gmail.com for processing. When submitting your application, check that the application is complete with your copies of both sides of your PAL and the funds are submitted in order for us to process your applications without delay.

We are currently waiting for our NFA insurance cards and hope to have them very soon from Edmonton.

We wish that this membership process will expedite your membership and make it easier to access the application files.

For those in or visiting Corner Brook, Barnes Sporting Goods on Humber Road can assist you with your membership applications. We pick them up from there on a regular basis.

Anyone wishing a mailed copy of the membership applications can do so by contacting us by email at

mail4upperhumber@gmail.com

or by phone at 709 686 5228 or contacting any of our Board members. We will be happy to forward a copy to you.

Please share this message.

Thank you all for your past membership with us. We look forward to seeing you again at and enjoying our facilities in 2022 and beyond.

All the best,

ALL shooters will have to register on site and non-members will pay a $6.00 fee to help cover costs, prior to any shooting activity. A portion of the fees collected will be forwarded along with our own contribution to one or more of the following; The Western Memorial Hospital Foundation, The Janeway Childrens Hospital or The Childrens Wish Foundation so that the entire community may benefits from our outdoor activity. Donations to these charitable organizations help us, our children and their families in a time of need.

While at the range Hearing and Eye protection is mandatory for everyone near any shooting area and must be worn at all times during any shooting activity. Park in a safe area always !

Although the club has a supply of the safety equipment on hand, that supply will depend on the numbers of people present.

Our UHRGA eye and hearing equipment must be sanitized/disenfected before and after each use according to health guidelines to ensure all safety measures are adhered to. If you bring your own, there will be no sharing unless it is with close family members within your own bubble.

During this Covid-19 pandemic for safety reasons we request you bring along your own protective equipment and be prepared with protective gloves and hand sanitizers or disenfectants. The club does have a supply but bringing along your own would be great and will not take up unreasonable time for cleaning for our attending UHRGA members.

Masks are requested where and when safe distancing measures cannot be maintained. Covid-19 restrictions will apply as per the Dept. of Health guidelines.

Please make every effort to bring along your own range safety equipment and personal precautionary protection.

Washroom use will be available during our sight in times. We respectively ask that you use hand sanitizers when entering and leaving our facilities. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
