Steel Challenge Events at the UHRGA

Good day everyone,

I am happy to announce that we will be bringing Steel Challenge to the Upper Humber Rod and Gun Association!  This could not have happened without some great support and help from our board and some others who have helped with equipment and range material!

We are planning to hold our first shoot this coming Monday, July 18, 2022 and hoping to start at 6:30pm with a short briefing followed by a fun evening of shooting.  Cost to participate in this will be $5 for UHRGA members and $15 for non members.

This a fun sport and is very inclusive and accessible for more shooters compared to other sports such as IPSC, although after getting your feet wet in action shooting with our Steel Challenge shoots, I have a feeling that many of you will be interested in other disciplines such as IPSC as well!  Is can be shot with 22lr so this can be a very cost effective way to have some fun as well!

All that is needed is a rifle or handgun chambered in 22lr or any normal pistol calibers (No magnums please).  It is also recommended that you have 5 magazines or speed loaders as this will help with the smooth flow of event.  If you don’t have 5, please don’t let that discourage you.  We can try to find a way to work around it or allow you to still participated in a bit of a limited capacity.

Holster use is not required and there is no prerequisite to have Black Badge certification for this sport, although anyone who chooses to use a holster must have Black Badge certification for safety reasons.

Although this sport does have official rules, we must reserve the right to make minor allowances or changes to these in the interest of allowing everyone to participate safely in this event.  There are also set stages contained in the rules, however we are treating these as fun shoots and will ba able to make changes to some of these stages for our purposes.

This event will have a safety area for casing and uncasing of firearms.  I would ask that when everyone arrives, they keep their firearms cased until we are able to brief the use of these areas and the safe handling and movement of firearms on an active range.

I would encourage anyone who is interested in this or would like to know more to come on out and join us on Monday evening!  Eye and ear protection is mandatory for all participants and observers.  Spectators are always welcome!  For those interested in shooting, please see the link below for the official rules.  There are also many videos and websites that will give you a good idea for what to expect.  Keep in mind that although some will show high levels of competitiveness, the main goal here is for everyone to have fun!

Take care and looking forward to seeing you all at the range!
